Spreets Founders Leave Company
June 1, 2012: The founders of the Spreets daily deals website, which they sold to Yahoo!7 last year for a reported $40m, are leaving the company. Dean McEvoy finishes today, Justus Hammer at the end of June while sales director Damien Andreasen will stay on a couple of months to bed in a replacement.
Dean McEvoy explained in an email announcing the departures that: "Its been a hell of a fun ride starting Australia's first group buying site and being acquired by Yahoo!7 just 11 months later. Its been a true privilege working with people like Damo & Justus plus Phil, Mick & the Pollenizer crew, our great investors Oliver & Klaus, The Yahoo!7 people especially Rohan Lund & Stuart Sayers but mostly the brilliant crew of people that are Spreeters and like me work every day in something that is not just a job to them, but a purpose.
"I'm mostly looking forward to a bit of a break. Its been 2004 since I have had a holiday. I doubt my mind will stay quiet for long, already I am mentoring and investing in great start-ups like Tempurer.com and accelerators like Startmate.com.au through my investment company Binary Investments. Its great to see an investment community forming around start-ups in Australia at last and I will be involved in some initiatives that help improve this...stay tuned."
