Ruth Mackay

Ruth Mackay is
the Registrar of Trade Marks, a position she has held since mid 2004. Over
this period of time IP Australia has introduced a new Assisted Filing
Service and has placed significant focus on reducing waiting times for the
examination of trade marks and further improving the focus the organisation
has had on quality and consistency. Ruth also became the Registrar of
Designs with the introduction of new legislation in 2004 . Previously Ruth

Brian White, Technical Program Manager, Search Quality, Google (US):
Brian has worked for Google since 2002, and has been part of the Internet
industry for over 10 years. During his time at Google, Brian has been
involved in efforts to maintain the high quality of Google's natural search
results. His primary focus has been to work with engineers to counter
webspam--techniques that fall outside Google's Quality Guidelines that aim
to manipulate one's presence in the search index. His experience and
leadership in countering webspam extends into multiple language markets.
Prior to joining Google, Brian was part of the initial team of category
managers at Epinions, where he grew the product review community around the
video games and consumer software verticals. He was also a community
producer and web developer at finance startup Quote.com <http://quote.com/>
, which was later acquired by Lycos. When not employed by Internet
startups, Brian worked as a consultant specializing in custom Web solutions
for small and medium-sized businesses. |
