Briefs: 24/7 Grows But Suffers Shrinkage, Funnelback Gets Flustered

  • 24/7 Real Media boosted its revenues during 2006 by 43% to more than US$200 million. But the US-based company – which owns Australia’s largest Search Engine Marketing business – recorded a loss of US$8.6 million for the year and warned its first quarter results would be slightly less than expected. As a result, its share price has fallen by almost 20% in the past few days. Looking ahead, the company raised its guidance for the full year 2007, anticipating revenue of between US$255 million, around 30% up on last year. March 6, 2007

  • Enterprise search software vendor Funnelback has lodged a provisional patent application for a product called Fluster, which groups search results into themes based on document content “to reveal how the search keywords have been used and in what context”. Fluster’s results are presented beside the standard ranked search results. Fluster was developed by Brett Matson, who said: “Fluster enables users to drill down into more focused queries … this offers users the ability to choose the most effective combination of search and navigation.” March 6, 2007
