Sensis, Google Sign Massive Search Deal
GOOGLE and Sensis today announced Australia’s biggest-ever search marketing agreement. Under the deal, Google will power web search and text advertising for Sensis.com.au and partner sites such as Big Pond. In return, listings from the Sensis business directory, Yellow, by far Australia’s largest, will be integrated into Google Maps.
Both initiatives are scheduled to start early next year and the implications are significant. The biggest is that after many years of attempting to develop its own search engine, Sensis has decided to let Google do the job. It means that from early 2009, Australia will have only two search engines – Google and Yahoo! – and that Google’s market share will increase even further to well beyond 90%.
